Peptic Ulcer Disease Symptoms

You're beginning to wonder if you may be suffering from peptic ulcer disease symptoms.

Heartburn is one thing, but this burning has gone on to long and keeps coming back for this to be normal. Your food can increase the pain or reduce it, depending on what you've eaten. Antacids don't seem to help for very long. You may have a peptic ulcer. If you notice that the pain keeps getting worse and then subsides for a couple of days and then gets worse again, it may be an ulcer you are experiencing.

A normal ulcer is a sore in the stomach lining or esophagus or small intestine that is from between 1/8 and 3/4 inches in size. A peptic ulcer however is a hole that has been eaten in the stomach lining and is being irritated by stomach acids and already eaten foods. A lot of the pain medications we take that are sold over the counter can irritate your peptic ulcer and cause irritation to your stomach, so always take those medications with food or milk. Even pepto bismal can irritate the stomach lining because it is classified as an en said medication as well as alka setlzer and motrin and ibuprofen.

Prolonged symptoms of a peptic ulcer will be nausea, vomiting, and weight loss. You may notice blood in your stools or you may notice a dark blackish color in your stools. Your vomit may have blood in it also as your peptic ulcer bleeds internally. Burning, excess gas and burping are also common with a peptic ulcer. Left untreated, a peptic ulcer will progressively worsen and will cause your food to get into your system through the hole in your stomach. This will cause infection to spread through your whole body as the food isn't disposed of out of the body properly.

The great news is that your peptic ulcer can be treated by a medical professional with corrective surgery. Medications can also be prescribed to help to alleviate the pain and discomfort. A special diet will also help with your discomfort, so by all means contact your doctor and get your peptic ulcer treated as soon as possible.
